The Tamron 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 is the world’s first lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras with a 16.6x zoom ratio, the greatest feature of this lens, covering wide-angle to an ultra-telephoto range (27mm to 450mm full-frame equivalent). With this broad coverage, the lens empowers shooting in a wide variety of situations including everyday life and travel snapshots with wide-angle, dynamic ultra-telephoto, and macro photography. Its AF drive system uses Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor autofocus mechanism for superior quietness and agile performance in still and video modes. The lens includes special optical elements arranged precisely to maintain high resolution performance from edge-to-edge and provide high image quality making it the best of all-in-one zoom lenses. Moreover, with an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 5.9” at 18mm, and a remarkable maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, this lens performs astonishingly well when shooting up close. This lens is equipped with Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism, effectively reducing image blur caused by camera shake in low-light conditions or in the ultra-telephoto range at slower shutter speeds. Also, same as most other Tamron lenses for mirrorless cameras, the lens features a 67mm filter size. With a wide variety of other features for comfortable shooting, this is a highly versatile lens that allows you to easily enjoy high image quality from wide-angle to ultra-telephoto and paves the way for eciting new photographic experiences.

    Absolutely Fantastic All-in-One Lens!
I am absolutely thrilled with the Tamron 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD! Paired with my Sony a6500, this lens has proven to be an outstanding upgrade to the kit lens (Sony 18-135 zoom). The build of the Tamron is to me a perfect balance, being not too heavy (surprisingly since it has a lot of elements) yet giving an impressive zoom range.Tamron’s Vibration Compensation is outstanding. It delivers sharp images even in challenging conditions. The autofocus is near-silent and highly responsive, making it ideally suited for capturing dynamic subjects such as birds in flight or turbulent ocean waves. Yet it’s just as impressive when I use it for taking pictures of my dogs and cats or in the village for street photography. While a handful of critiques seem to come from very seasoned professionals, the overwhelming consensus I have found are very positive. The lens delivers exceptional performance and versatility.I’m firmly in the camp that considers this lens fantastic—and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an all-in-one solution without compromising quality.

Great step up from a standard kit lens. *Includes US Warranty*
I bought this to extend the reach of my already excellent Sony 18-135. Based on first impressions I’m quite pleased with the results. The extended 18-300 range is quite useful and will make for a great walk around lens for travel. Image quality looks great. One interesting feature of this lens is the minimum focusing distance at the wide-end. You can get within an inch or two of an object and still get focus, making it useful as a semi-macro lens.My only two quibbles are unavoidable for a lens of this type. First, focusing is a touch slow but that’s due to the lens itself – a zoom of this range requires a large number of lens elements and moving them to focus is sometimes slow. Second, the lens is just plain big and heavy. Not nearly as big as a full frame lens but it’s easily one of the bigger lenses for Sony’s APS-C ecosystem.A previous reviewer stated they believed the lens was gray market, however the one I received (ships and sold from Amazon) is not. A holographic sticker was included on the box verifying it was an authorized sale under US warranty.GOOD:- Useful zoom range- Incredibly close focusing distance opens up possibilities- Good image quality and color rendition- Solid buildBAD:- Autofocus is a tad slow compared to smaller range lenses- It’s big and heavy! If you’re looking for a great all-purpose walk around lens for a Sony A6xxx series this is a great choice!

A great lens with some significant setbacks
It’s pretty decent as an all-around lens, and it can certainly be more convenient than switching back and forth between lenses if you see something close to photograph and then see something far away to photograph, as you can switch in just a couple seconds. I bought this to replace a 17-70mm Tamron lens and a 70-170mm Tamron lens, and while it does cover the zoom range and more of both lenses combined, I didn’t realize (which is my own ignorance of how lenses work) before purchasing this lens that I would miss out on the softer backgrounds when zoomed out to 17mm and the amount of light that I would lose when zoomed in at 300mm (as the f/6.3 is quite dark). The lens is great for taking photos of far-away animals at the zoo, for example, but as soon as the day starts getting dark, so do the photos. Worth it as an all-in-one lens, but you do have some cons to consider.

    Good general purpose lens
If I could have only one lens for the rest of my life, it’s this one.Things I don’t like:It’s large, so it doesn’t fit in my smallest camera bag.Things I do like:It produces amazing photos. WIthout that, the rest is meaningless. This lens delivers. I never feel like I could have gotten a better photo with a better lens.It has a decent aperture range for a zoom lens. I’m not married to the idea you can only get a good bokeh background with a super tiny F-Stop. Even as a beginner, this lens has enough of a range, I have enough tricks we can pull it off together. It has an amazing range. I can photograph birds in the tree across the street, a joust at a Renaissance Festival, and a friend sitting across a very narrow living room all with one lens. I don’t care for swapping in the middle of things, and being able to get good shots near and far is a top priority for me.It’s not that heavy. I can shoot handheld no problem. It’s easy to manual focus. Yes it has auto focus. No, there are no problems with that. But sometimes the camera wants to focus on one thing and I want to focus on another. This lens is easy to get the things I want in focus to be in focus. It’s a perfect lens for the Sony A6000.

Got it in five days from Amazon. Took it out to Melkote and Kere Tonnur the very next day to test the lens. I have mated it to my basic Sony A6000. The picture quality is excellent especially below the peak exposure level of 300mm. Feels solid, decent build quality. VC works top notch, I was on two hill tops with huge wind obstruction; with no tripod. The VC worked almost perfect. No vignetting. Very acceptable quality of pictures. Happy to have it on my Sony. Now I don’t need to use the others – 18-105G lens, 18-55 kit lens, 55-210 telephoto kit lens… Tamron 18-300 exceeds expectations.

This lens permanently sits mounted on one of my three cameras. It’s the ultimate walk around lens. Some have complained that focus is soft at 300mm, but I don’t see this as a deal breaker. First off, getting the shot is more important than getting the lens out. This lens replaces both my 18-105mm and 70-300mm together. (Yes, the 70-300 is Full Frame and quite a sharp lens, but sharp means very little when you’ve missed the shot.) Second, I don’t find the lens very soft at 300mm. The train tracks image was taken at 300mm. I am happy with how it turned out.A few more details about the lens. The extension barrel is a bit stiff while zooming out, but a lot smoother zooming back in. Not ideal for video I suppose, but I use mine for photography only. Auto focus is quick and accurate, and manual focus is smooth. The lens is well built and lightweight, but what crop sensor lens is heavy? Seriously. The weather sealing is a superb touch. I’m a bit of a clean sensor snob, so knowing that the lens is tightly sealed to the camera makes me feel comfortable. As mentioned above, I like the images taken at 300mm, and the close focus at 18mm is insane! Almost touching the subject, making for a macro style photo, as seen in the simple leaf image.Overall, this lens is well worth the money and I have no issues with it at all.
