RF28mm F2.8 STM lens is a super-compact, wide-angle lens great for travel, street photography, and video and is a great entry point for full frame EOS R cameras. Great for still photography and videography, 28mm has been the starting point for getting a wide-angle “look” in pictures and video for decades — wide enough on a full-frame camera, to have a distinct wide-angle character, and yet not so wide that it becomes a challenge to use. This lens absolutely can also be used with APS-C sensor EOS R-series cameras, like the EOS R7, R10, and R50. Its super-compact design combines beautifully with them, and on an APS-C sensor, it provides coverage equal to a standard 45mm lens. Its super-flat design belies the fact that this lens delivers 28mm wide-angle coverage on full frame cameras, along with an f/2.8 maximum aperture. The lens’s minimum focus distance is approximately 9 inches; it accepts 55mm filters, and with the incredibly small front lens element, it uses an optional, dedicated Canon screw-in lens hood EW-55. This compact 28mm RF lens is worth checking out, even if you already own other wide-angle lenses, and carries an attractive price, putting it within reach of many Canon EOS R-series users.
RF wide angle lens for full-frame cameras – a supremely lightweight and affordable pancacke lens that never gets in the way.
Everyday 28mm coverage for stills and video with full-frame EOS R series cameras; equivalent to approx. 45mm coverage when used on cameras with APS-C size image sensors.
Excellent image quality: highlights include three aspheric elements, and Canon Super Spectra Coating (SSC) to minimize ghosting and flare.
Minimum focus distance of approx. 9 in./0.23m. with a maximum magnification of 0.17x.
Canon leadscrew type STM (stepping motor) focus drive, especially suited for smooth, quiet video AF operation.

Excellent Street photography for minimalist shooting
This is actually a great prime lens for the money you get (excellent deal) for it. 28 mm is part of the wide angle look close to the 16mm – 24mm ultrawides so it’s fair balance without the wide angle distortions. And with the dimensions allows for cropping without losing quality (especially if you’re shooting with a full frame camera versus cropped APS-C; where as the crop has a 1.6x that turns this 28mm into 44.8mm focal length; I haven’t tried this on a cropped sensor so disregard if you have a cropped / APS-C sensor). Not bad for low light shooting. albeit at f2.8.The build quality is pretty much plastic but it’s light. the 7-blade aperture is not really too bad and gives a nice buttery bokeh that’s pretty on par with the EF L version of the 24mm. It’s nice to see Canon aiming this at the prosumer – enthusiast market with this decent cost of $250 for an amazing, color-saturated Canon color science that we’re all used to. The corners get a bit soft but not as bad as the RF 16mm and 24mm, so this 28mm wins out on the corner tests versus the other RF lens in the same camp. Now for the cons. No IS, so either use a tripod or bring up the ISO and shutter speed.Other than my quibble about no built in IS (how can you with a pancake architecture?) but overall the photo quality, ease of use, and extreme portability when paired with Canon’s RP or R8 mirrorless wins out and makes the no IS a minor flaw that can be easily forgiven given its versatility in the field. Highly recommended.

Well worth it.
Great quality for the money. You know going into it that it”s a f2.8 so despite it being slow, that shouldn’t be a shock. The fov is great as a walk around prime, the focus is fairly quick and very precise and consistent, and the image quality hits far above its price point. The small size makes it possible to throw it over your shoulder and not have it get in the way, or cause fatigue, even when also dealing with a toddler/infant and strollers/duaper bags. The size is a great attribute. This lens offers a lot more than the price would indicate. A very high value and recommended.

Great Little Pancake Lens
Nice little lens! I’m 70 years old and have a lot of pain in my hands, and it’s getting harder and harder to carry my beloved zoom lenses. I wanted something small and lightweight to carry around when I don’t want all that weight. This lens is lightweight, has very little distortion at 28mm, and is probably comparable in sharpness to the RF 35mm. Easy to carry around all day, and the photos come out great.

Great Travel Lense
I love this little lens. I was looking for something compact to use on my R6 Mark II when I travel. This lens fit the bill perfectly. Its sharp, fast, and very compact. And the price is not bad as well for the performance you get.

My everyday lens
The small size and weight of this lens are amazing. It’s become my everyday lens for my R50 — allowing the kit to fit inside a small handbag. The images are high quality and focusing is fast. It’s a useful length on both a full frame and crop–I’m really enjoying this lens. So glad it’s offered for full frame.

Great lens for a budget
This is a fixed focal length lens with a low f stop of 2.8 that creates a lovely depth of field. It focuses quickly & I use it often for very low light setting such as concerts. I’ve noticed very little distortion & it is one of my main lenses I use. I use it frequently and it is completely crucial in my kit. If you are on a budget for good glass, definitely add this one to the list. I use it on a full frame camera & I absolutely love it. I recommend it to anyone that I can.

Excellent for saving weight on a heavy full frame
This little pancake lens is perfect on my Canon R6. It makes me want to carry it again since there is no longer an EF adaptor required. The sharpness is as good as they say. Really a remarkable little lens. Prime lenses like this require a different style of shooting than zooms, but the trade off is worth it.

My favorite travel Lense
I love this little pancake Lense.I wanted a lens I could throw on my Canon, take sharp pictures, and hopefully be able to fit in my pocket and this did exactly that. The build quality is about what you’d expect for a Lens this cheap. The autofocus is a little slow, but it just encourages me to use manual focus.I did expect a larger element, but it didn’t make any difference to the sharpness or clarity.I can’t speak much about distortion but YouTube it and I’m sure someone will do a deep dive.

カメラ本体は重い、いい写真や動画が撮れるが、総重量が重くなるのは問題だ。その点、軽量で画質も良いのでお勧めの逸品だ。

If you like 24mm pancake. Then you’ll love the 28mm “pancake”.
