Exactly as Advertised
I don’t care much for the home page and how it’s setup, but I already had a Meebook P78, 7.8″ reader, and I figured this was a good upgrade. It is. I never did care for the protector that was over the screen on the P78, and this one is much better (slicker). I bought it because it ran Android and I wanted to be able to read from Kindle, Hoopla, Google Play Books, Barnes & Noble, Libby, etc. It also has a fine reading app for books that I transfer on there. And speaking of that, the WiFi transfer is quick and seamless. Very easy! Highly recommend.

Persistent Ghosting and Refresh Issues
I really wanted to like this tablet because it’s marketed as a large e-ink device that should work smoothly for reading and note-taking.Unfortunately it has a serious ghosting problem. Whenever I scroll or move through text, faint lines from previous pages or words stay on the screen. The only way to remove them is by performing a hard refresh, which flashes the screen black and white. Having to do this every few seconds makes the experience frustrating and disrupts reading or writing flow.If you plan to use this for web browsing or continuous scrolling, it’s not ideal. It might work okay for static reading (like PDFs or eBooks), but for anything that involves movement, expect visible shadows and artifacts unless you manually refresh all the time.Hopefully the manufacturer can fix this with a firmware update or better refresh settings, but for now, it’s not practical for everyday use.

Android Based Ereader That Offers Best of Both Worlds
Meebook M8 is a flush screen ereader with 300 PPI B&W display. I got this ereader over other alternatives mainly because it supports Android apps. If you want to maximize reading either through the internet-based apps, the browser, or just want to read directly through the supported formats (PDF, EPUB etc.) then this ereader will not disappoint you. The user interface takes a while to get accustomed to as it’s a different interface than other Android tablets. I especially like that I can customize the refresh setting according to each app since there are some apps that can benefit from fast refresh and less ghosting while others, you can some power through using power saving settings. The size of the ereader is in between a very small ereader and a medium sized tablet. I haven’t tried using a pen to scribble notes on this device, but it carries that functionality as well.

Far better than a Kindle
Clunky GUI out of the box, but since it’s Android 14 and Google Play Store, it’s very easy to install a different launcher to change the appearance and make it more user friendly.I personally like Burrow UI that you can download from GitHub for the launcher for this device as it is very minimalistic. I also prefer reading with KOReader which is a great eReader app that you can download also from GitHub. KOReader is a fantastic eReader app that allows a massive amount of customization.With my current setup, this Meebook M8 uses very little resources. With Burrow UI and doing my reading with KOReader, I’m averaging 25 hours of screen time per full charge! 98% of my battery is being used by KOReader with only 1% being used by Burrow UI. Goodbye Kindle for good!My only complaint, and this is not worth deducting any stars, but I don’t really care much for the white frame and wish there was a black option. I know that the color e-ink version does come in black but I didn’t want a color e-ink reader.

Meebook M8 zero manufacturer support
Meebook worked well for several weeks. I was able to install several e-reader app. Many of the functions resembled those of the Boox Note Air that I gifted to my son. The system became corrupted and unresponsive after downloading the latest update. Unfortunately the device couldn’t enter into a factory reset after the continuous rebooting loop. Meebook page Admin on Facebook referred me to Amazon for support. The device is a month past return. I’ll wait with bated breath for a positive response. In any case I caution buyers to perform all updates during the early part of the ownership under full return policy to avoid this predicament.
