Impressive E-Ink Note Taking Tablet with Some UI Limitations
This tablet is an impressive piece of e-ink technology. It measures about 7 3/8″ x 9 1/2″ and feels similar in weight to a clipboard filled with paper, which makes it comfortable to carry. The main app is the notebook feature, and it does a remarkable job of mimicking the feel of paper. Writing or drawing with the included stylus is responsive, with only the slightest delay that is noticeable but not distracting.Where the device shows some weakness is in its user interface. Simple tasks like adjusting brush width are not as intuitive as they should be, and the visual feedback is minimal. Compared to the polish of modern mobile operating systems, it feels a bit clunky.On the positive side, file transfer is handled well with a built-in app that allows direct browser access from a computer or another device. The tablet runs Android, so downloading apps like Kindle and Firefox is straightforward. Reading Kindle books is excellent on the large e-ink screen, but web browsing and video playback are not suited to this type of display. Even with refresh and quality adjustments, video and high-detail graphics remain underwhelming. I also tested Sketchbook, and it exhibited significant lag, confirming that third-party apps not designed for e-ink are less effective.In the end, this device shines when used for its intended purpose: a digital notebook that feels like paper. The native notebook app is fast, fluid, and a genuine replacement for physical note taking. Standard Android apps will run, but this is not the right device if that is your priority. For those looking for a dedicated e-ink notebook and e-reader, it delivers very well.

Interesting that even with English selected as the preferred language, the apps still show up in what I assume is Chinese. Not helpful at all.

Overall amazing, small but significant issues.
First – why this is a 4 star review and not a 5 star… The stylus is not even magnetic to stick to the tablet, so I *know* that I’ll lose it.. And second, the size, though perfect, seems to be wildly unusual, and there is no case produced by Musnap, which means finding a case for this (particularly one that can also hold the stylus) lightweight and delicate e-reader is a challenge.The negatives aside, the Musnap X is AMAZING. The battery life is great, it is useful as a note taking tablet and an e-reader, with fantastic hand writing recognition. The ability to link it to OneNote and Notion (my two primary organizing apps) is amazing, and uses the same speed of writing conversion. The speakers are good enough for basic listening purposes, though if you’re picky about audio, this is not the music player you want.. Thankfully, I’m just looking for a device to take notes and read books on, the fact that I can *also* play music while I’m reading on it is just wildly convenient.I would appreciate if you could do split screen, because note taking and reading at the same time would be useful, but it’s not a universe ending missing ability, and as useful as it could be, it’s a messy thing on anything that fits in the hand comfortably (which this completely does).The reality is that it reads even my messiest handwriting well, and allows note taking in the native app (which is a little complicated, but pretty quick to work out) or you can use whatever Android apps you would normally use.. You can read via the kindle app, or via uploaded files.. The combination makes this an overall great device for replacing the piles of notebooks at my desk, everything from formal notes to scribbles that I just want to keep quick records of. This is an amazing tool, and will help immensely with keeping me organized.

After using my new Neo C which is dreadfully slow, this Musnap is a speed demon. As fast as you write it is there on the screen. It even has a convert to digitally derived text feature, but unless your penmanship is extraordinary… it does the best it can and what scribble it tries to decipher it is easy to isolate that.The menu system is different than anything else I have used but fortunately the complete instruction book is included and in the book section library.My excitement grew because I have been a lifetime note taker. I also have a spiral notebook on my desk, ready to jot down anything. If I am on the phone, I take notes, and the list goes on. As a matter of fact I acquired some smaller note books so I could have one for each of my specialties. That of course leads to me having to rummage through my desk pile to find the right one. With this you can store them all according to the core subject/category, and have them all in one device making it totally portable. I’m still learning how I can share and use them on different devices.It comes with its own pen, and there are instructions as to how to change the tip but I cannot find any place to pick up additional tips. The one tip is preinstalled and that is it as in no spares provided. Not that a tip would normally wear out anytime soon. The screen is bright enough and easy to use. There is so much to discover. It is more than worth the price of admission. Highly recommended.I’m back again. Okay, one last tip. I just ordered from Amazon the “MoKo 9-11 Inch Tablet Sleeve Bag Carrying Case Fits New 11inch iPad Air M3, iPad A16 2025, iPad Pro 11 M4, Air 5/4/3, iPad 10/9/8th Gen, Tab S8/S9 11” which fits the Musnap reader perfectly, and saves a bundle because no need for extra pockets outside of the case because the only port into this tablet is a USB-C for charging etc. It’s their top seller in this category with a gazillion sold. 🙂
