Decent product with a few annoying problems
I had one of Eagle Creek’s old design silk pouches and liked it a lot. After many years, it finally started to wear out at the corners, where my passport rubbed against the fabric. Sigh. Time to replace it. Eagle Creek’s new silk pouches are significantly smaller, and would hold very little. They struck me as useless. This pouch, even though it is made of nylon, seemed like the best bet.Overall, it is well made, and the soft fabric on the back feels comfortable against my skin. The rest of the nylon feels pretty harsh, but since that won’t be touching my skin, it’s a very small concern.There are, however, a couple of problems. The Amazon description says it has two zippered pockets for passports, cash and other large items. Further down the page, they mention the small zippered pocket in the flap that is good for credit cards and coins. This description led me to believe there were two large zipped pockets in the body of the pouch and one small one in the flap. Wrong. There is one large zipped pocket for passports, cash and perhaps one more large item (because you don’t want it to get too thick), and there is a second small zipped pocket in the flap that is good for credit cards and coins, as described. Two total zipped pockets. There are also three open pockets of various sizes, and these are protected by the velcro flap. This is bit of a concern for long term durability, because velcro usually wears out after a few years, and stops working.The second concern has to do with the length of the strap, and how that may relate to the length of your torso. This information is not posted anywhere on Amazon, as far as I have found. The strap at its shortest is 31 inches long. I have a fairly long torso, but the bottom of the pouch hangs down 16 inches below the front of my neck, which puts the bottom half of it below my waist. This is rather uncomfortable and inconvenient when you are trying to pull out your passport at airport check-in, or trying to get to your debit card to withdraw local currency from an ATM upon arrival at your destination airport. The only easy solution, unless you are quite tall or have a football player’s neck, is to wear the pouch across your body and under your arm–good for concealment, but still inconvenient to access. Another possible solution, if you are handy with a sewing machine, is to cut the strap to make it about a foot shorter, and then resew the cut ends together so it will hold. Rather a hassle that shouldn’t be necessary on an otherwise quality product.
