I ordered the Cikefit Personal Survival Straw .316L Stainless Steel Reusable Water Filter Straw Portable Water Purifier Straw because it looked like it would be easy to fit into my pack due to its small, slender size.Being made of stainless steel, the straw is quite durable & built well. I like that the mouthpiece is made of food grade silicone and not plastic. It is light weight, which is nice when you’re trying to cut every little bit of weight that you can from your pack.I didn’t detect any noticable difference in water taste when I tested this straw out on my tap water. It’s possible that if one were drinking from somewhat foul water that there would be a difference in taste. I’m more interested in the filtering capabilities, so I won’t be finding that out.I am a bit apprehensive about relying on it to filter drinking water. There is next to no information from the manufacturer concerning what makes up the actual filter material. They merely tell you that it’s a ‘hollow fiber membrane’. The description of the .316 stainless steel is much more in depth. I’d have rather had those details about how & what exactly is filtering the water that is supposed to be safe for me to drink.At $19.99, it’s a low value for the money. If pertinent information about the product were provided that supported manufacturer claims, it would be a decent value. Meanwhile, this will be a backup for my backup filter to use only in extreme situations.

This stainless steel survival straw is far more durable than the typical plastic filters I’ve used. The 316 stainless steel build feels solid, doesn’t crack, and has no strange taste or chemical smell. I love that it can be opened for quick cleaning—great for reuse in emergency situations. Despite being sturdy, it’s lightweight and easy to carry in a backpack or emergency kit. The 0.1μm filter works fast and gives peace of mind when drinking from streams or during power outages. Overall, a long-lasting, dependable water filter that’s absolutely worth having for hiking, camping, or emergency preparedness.

Better than nothing
Lightweight. Necessary. Great for hiking, camping, travel to foreign countries or emergencies. “Removes 99.999999% of bacteria (E. Coli), 99.999% of parasites (giardia, cryptosporidium), and 99.999% of microplastics.” Is there a way to verify this? Doesn’t appear to be. “Membrane filter lasts up to 1000 L,” I have no idea how you would know how much you have used. I’ve used these before (different brand) to drink right out of a stream in Yosemite. We did get some gastrointestinal upset, but not sick, so I don’t know what happened. Maybe it was that <1% that doesn't get filtered. It says it filters down to .2 microns. You can look up (online) the cell or particle size of things you want to be protected from. There is no information on the filtration material, or the company or where this is made. It does state that "for every product purchased, a child in need receives safe water for a year," but there is no website, no program name, no details of any sort, so you may be hard pressed to verify this information, and it could very well just be a gimmick to sell more straws. Without more accountability for these claims, I would caution to use at your own risk, but in an emergency, use what you have, it's better than nothing. Otherwise, it seems well built of good stainless steel, but only time and use will tell. Without any guarantees or warranties, the current price of $20 is high, imo. I do like the different colors they offer, though.
